Group Therapy: A Closer Look
Group Therapy at Royal Life Centers
Group meets at our center nearly daily and is an essential part of recovery. Our outpatient facility in Lacey is dedicated to holding just group and individual therapy sessions to keep distractions to a minimum and personal progress and self-discovery to a maximum. Guests also meet with their case managers at our facility, and we have an ARNP or PA on site at minimum twice a week to meet with guests as needed for medical consultations or their prescription needs.
Group topics covered may include relapse prevention, education on gender-specific issues, trauma resolution, grief and loss, anger management, and depression and may also focus on subjects such as goal-setting, self-worth, and emotional healing. Our holistic approach incorporates a variety of therapies to provide the most comprehensive addiction treatment.
Sessions are sometimes held as educational/informational sessions during which one of our therapists will do most of the talking, and other times are held as more participatory, informal discussions facilitated by a therapist but led mostly by guests. We encourage guest participation in group and take steps to ensure that everyone feels comfortable sharing their thoughts and contributing to the discussion.
Other groups at RLC at Sound consist of adventure, activity, movement, and equine-assisted therapies. Our activity and movement therapies— art, music, journaling, and activities such as yoga— are held at our center, while our adventure (kayaking and ropes courses) and equine-assisted therapies are held off-site in Lacey. Twenty percent of the city is reserved for natural space, which makes it ideal for these sorts of outdoor team-building activities.
Outpatient guests in the third and final stage of treatment receive job readiness training, including resume and job-finding assistance, to help them prepare for reintegrating into everyday life and creating independent routines for themselves.
PHP groups are held six hours per day, six days per week. IOP groups are held three to five hours per day, depending on phase, five days per week. Transportation is provided to and from PHP/IOP and Royal Life Housing, our sober living facility where our nine-week guests reside. Snacks are available at the center, but eating and drinking is not allowed in group and is permitted only in the designated dining area.
At RLC at Sound, we are committed to offering treatment that creates and inspires lasting changes in the lives of our guests. Our outpatient program is tailored to meet the needs of those dependent on drugs and alcohol to help them to live free of substances.
