Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

What is Intensive Outpatient?

Guests may move on to our six-week intensive outpatient program (IOP) once they’ve completed the partial hospitalization program (PHP) portion of our nine-week outpatient program.  The first three weeks consist of three hours of group per day, five days per week before guests are transitioned fully into IOP.

The final phase of our intensive outpatient program consists of three hours of group per day, three days per week. During these three weeks, guests participate in weekly individual therapy, learn life skills, and attend job readiness groups. Guests meet with their individual therapists once a week during nine week.

Holistic treatment includes group and individual, activity, adventure, and equine therapies, as well as psychiatry with medication management. Guests in intensive outpatient programming also can partake in behavioral therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy. At Royal Life Centers at Sound, we incorporate only evidence-based treatments into our therapy programming. Individual and group therapy, psychotherapy, recreational opportunities, relapse prevention, education on gender-specific issues, trauma resolution, grief and loss, anger management, depression, and 12 step meetings are all a part of our approach.

This comprehensive approach is designed to be collaborative and affect mental, physical, and spiritual change in the lives of guests. We believe that incorporating many different therapies is the best way to discover what works for each guest. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), as well as activity and adventure therapy, are just a few examples.

Royal Life Centers at Sound makes guests a part of their own treatment. We don’t believe that placing guests in pre-determined, pre-scheduled groups is the right way to treat substance abuse. Instead, we have guests work together with their primary therapist to develop an Individual Service Plan (ISP). This plan is created to identify and meet each guest’s unique needs. Guests also work with their case manager to resolve their legal and social issues and learn about available community resources. Guests in our intensive outpatient program have the opportunity to truly create their own schedule with targeted therapies that are especially helpful for them.

Most guests choose to stay with us at Royal Life Residences, our sober living community, throughout all phases of outpatient treatment. Each home features luxurious living rooms, spacious bedrooms, and plasma TVs with cable. Transportation to 12 step meetings is provided four times each day, as well as transportation to PHP/IOP. Our staff members at Royal Life housing cycle through three shifts per day, so that each staff member is awake and attentive while on the clock.

To live in the grad housing division of our sober living, guests must obtain employment. Our employment specialists assist guests at every stage of the job-finding process, from connecting them with potential opportunities in the community to refining interview skills. Our intensive outpatient program includes counseling from our employment specialists.
