Adventure Therapy

What is Adventure Therapy?

Royal Life Centers at Sound offers guests two different types of adventure therapy: kayaking and ropes courses. In particular, these therapies actively involve guests in their own treatment. In an attempt to restore wellness after active addiction, we make guests’ mental and physical health a priority. Indeed, exercise has innumerable health benefits and several stress-relieving qualities. According to the Mayo Clinic, some of these include:

  • Increased endorphin production
  • Improved mood
  • Promotion of meditative mindset
adventure therapy

Further, studies by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the American Psychological Association (APA), and Harvard Medical School have revealed that physical activity can reduce depression and help cognitive function. In addition, rigorous physical activity raises cortisol levels, which can reduce stress immediately.

Developing new, healthy habits is essential in early recovery. With that understanding, our adventure therapy programming ensures these changes are lasting and applicable to everyday living.

Kayaking

Group kayaking can facilitate teamwork and encourage guests to practice their problem-solving and communication skills. It can also increase self-sufficiency and improve self-esteem. In essence, the development of these skills and traits helps guests build a foundation for lasting sobriety.

Our Pacific Northwest location is the ideal setting for a serene kayaking experience that provides an escape from daily stress.

Ropes Courses

Royal Life Centers at Sound believes in the restorative power of group therapy to treat substance abuse, and our ropes courses are a fun alternative to traditional group therapy. Ropes courses encourage teamwork and cooperation. Furthermore, this activity allows guests to step outside their comfort zones and face personal obstacles. Our ropes course facilitators teach guests how to use course equipment in a group and individual setting. Participating in our ropes course allows guests the chance to explore personal limits and work with others to achieve a common goal. Additionally, ropes courses build trust among peers and boost confidence. Our holistic therapy programming is meant to reduce stress, elevate mood, and teach guests skills that will help them in their recovery. Of course, throughout outpatient programming, and long after they leave our care. At Royal Life Centers at Sound, our admissions staff is always available at (888) 716-4070 to answer your questions.
